Keyboard shortcuts are the cornerstones of easy and efficient screen time. But remembering them at the time you need them is a sometimes a challenge. Alt + D: selects the Address bar
Alt + P: displays the Preview Pane in Explorer
Alt + Tab: goes forward through open windows
Alt + Shift + Tab: goes backward through open windows
Alt + F: closes the active window
Alt + Spacebar: access the shortcut menu for current window
Alt + Esc: cycles between open programs in the order that they were opened
Alt + Enter: accesses the Properties dialog box of the selected item
Alt + PrtScn: takes a screenshot of the active Window and place it in the clipboard
Shift + Insert: loads CD/DVD without triggering Autoplay
Shift + Delete: permanently deletes an item, rather than sending it to the Recycle Bin
Shift + F6: cycles backward through elements in a window
Shift + F10: accesses the context menu for the selected item
Shift + Tab: cycles backwards through elements in a window
Shift + Click: selects a group of items which don’t have to be next to each other
Shift + Click on a Taskbar button: launches a new instance of a program
Shift + Right-click on a Taskbar button: access the context menu for the selected item
Ctrl + A: selects all items
Ctrl + C: copies the selected items
Ctrl + D: deletes the selected item
Ctrl + E: selects the Search box in the upper right corner of a window
Ctrl + N: opens a new window in Explorer
Ctrl + X: cuts the selected items
Ctrl + V: pastes the selected items
Ctrl + W: closes the currents window in Explorer
Ctrl + Z: undo an action
Ctrl + Shift + N: creates a new folder
Ctrl + Shift + Esc: opens the Windows Task Manager
Ctrl + Alt + Tab: use arrow keys to cycle through open windows
Ctrl + Alt + Delete: accesses the Windows security screen
Ctrl + Click: selects multiple individual items
Ctrl + Click and drag an item: copies that item in the same folder
Ctrl + Shift + Click and drag an item: creates a shortcut for that item in the same folder
Ctrl + Tab: move forward through tabs
Ctrl + Shift + Tab: move backward through tabs
Ctrl + Shift + Click on a Taskbar: launches a new instance of a program as Administrator
Ctrl + Click on a grouped Taskbar button: cycles through the instance of a program in a group
Num Lock Enabled + Plus (+): displays the contents of the selected folder
Num Lock Enabled + Minus (-): collapses the selected folder
Num Lock Enabled + Asterisk (*): expands all subfolders under the selected folder
Pushing Shift 5 times turns StickyKeys on or off
Hold down right Shift for 8 seconds to turn FilterKeys on or off
Hold down Num Lock for 5 seconds to turn ToggleKeys on or off
Win: gets you on the start screen;
Win + Tab: opens a list of running programs;
Win + B: selects the first item in the Notification Area (scroll through using the arrow keyts)
Win + Ctrl + B: accesses the program that is displaying a message in the Notification Area
Win + C: brings up Charms panel with access to searching, sharing and settings functions
Win + D: gets you to the desktop
Win + E: opens the explorer to easily access your folders;
Win + F: opens a file and folder search
Win + H: opens the Share charm
Win + I: opens the Settings charm
Win + K: opens the Devices charm
Win + L: locks the computer
Win+ Q: opens the Apps Search screen (a global search)
Win + M: minimizes all windows
Win + Shift + M: restores all minimized windows
Win + P: opens the Second Screen bar
Win + R: opens the Run dialog box to quickly run apps
Win + T: cycles through the items on the Taskbar
Win + O: Lock Screen orientation
Win + U: opens Ease of Access center
Win + V: allows you to view all active toasts/notifications
Win + W: opens the Setting Search
Win + X: opens the Windows Tools menu (brings up links to the event viewer, device manager, command prompt)
Win + Z: opens the App Bar when you have a Modern Desktop App running
Win + Print Screen: takes a screenshot and places is in the Screenshots
folder in the Pictures folder;
Win + . : moves the split screen to the right
Win + Shift + . : moves the split screen to the left
Win + Enter: Launch narrator
Win + Ctrl + F: opens Find Computers dialog box
Win + Pause/Break: opens the System page
Win + 1..10: launches a program pinned on the Taskbar (position indicated by the number)
Win + Shift + 1..10: launches a new program pinned on the Taskbar (according to position number)
Win + Ctrl + 1..10: accesses the last active instance of a program pinned on the Taskbar
Win + Alt + 1..10: accesses the Jump List of a program pinned on the Taskbar
Win + Up arrow: maximizes current window
Win + Down arrow: minimizes current window
Win + Home: minimizes all but the current window
Win + Left Arrow: tiles the window on the left side of the screen
Win + Right Arrow: tiles the window on the right side of the screen
Win + Shift + Up Arrow: extends the current window from the top to the bottom of the screen
Win + Shift + Left/Right Arrow: moves the current window from one monitor to the next
Win + F1: launches window help and support
F1: displays Help
F2: renames a file
F3: opens Search
F4: displays the Address bar
F5: refreshes the display
F6: cycles forward through elements in a window
F7: displays current command history in a Command prompt
F10: displays hidden Menu Bar
F11: toggles full screen display
Tab: cycles forward through elements in a display
PrtScn: takes a screen shot of the entire screen and places it on the clipboard
End: moves to the bottom of the active window
Delete: deletes the selected item
Backspace: displays the previous folder in Explorer; moves up one folder level in Open or Save
Esc: closes a dialog box
